Once accepted and worn a “Torc” may not be removed unless:1
1 It is understood that Roth’s Torc was somehow removed from him when he was imprisoned in a splinter of time by Koshanth. How this was achieved is not understood and Koshanth no longer has memory of his actions.
- The wearer is repudiating it fully – in so doing that individual may never wear it again
- The wearer is passing it to their successor
- At the wearers death
- the gifting deity wills it
- The Torc refuses the wearer – see notes below
Repudiation by a Torc
Once accepted and worn a torc monitors its wearers actions. It expects the wearer to only act in ways that meet its purpose. Should the wearer break faith with the torc then it may act in any of the following or similar ways or in combination :
- bander the wearer telepathically – constantly – including preventing sleep if necessary
- refuse to share its powers with the wearer for a period
- Warn by punishment either pain or psychic. For example, in the case of a simple lie, it may cause intense pain and debilitation that will prevent the wearer uttering the lie.
- Teleport itself and the wearer to a location it decides – placing the wearer on notice!
- Teleport itself (without the wearer) to a location it decides – instantly severing all ties with the wearer. In such a case the wearer suffers 1d10 psychic damage for each level they are.
- Execution of the wearer by severing of the head, while teleporting itself to a location of its choosing or possibly returning to the sponsored deity.
