Kethra was the illegitimate daughter of a prominent Lord and was cast out by her stepmother when her father died at age 6. After running away from the orphanage at age 8, she appealed to a master wizard to be apprenticed to her after a chance encounter proved to him that Kethra had some magical promise.
Over the years, however, the wizard’s demeanour turned, and Kethra became more of a maid and personal servant to her than an apprentice.
Kethra was only able to continue her arcane studies while the wizard slept at night, creeping into her library and reading her great tomes of magic. One night, the wizard discovered Kethra in her library and became so angry that she cast her out into the street. Confused by the change in her circumstances from having a kind benefactor apprenticing her as a young child, to being cast out, Kethra set out to find her own way.
Discovering that so many other people around her had similar tales of woe, Kethra became suspicious that something darker and more powerful was afoot.
